COVID-19 and tax free one time grant - latest update November 17, 2020

On June 15 the government and a vast majority in the Danish Parliament have come to the agreement that 1000 DKK is paid to people, who were partially or completely supported by public benefits in the month of April 2020. The one time grant is administered by ATP and is therefore given to students, who received SU or completion loan together with supplementary grant for physically or mentally disabled (handicaptillæg) or supplementary grant for providers (forsørgertillæg) in April 2020 among others.

Who can receive the one time grant?

You must have received the SU grant or completion loan together with supplementary grant for physically or mentally disabled (handicaptillæg) or supplementary grant for providers (forsørgertillæg) in April 2020 in order to be entitled to the one time grant. You can check minSU to see whether you received SU or completion loan together with supplementary grant for physically or mentally disabled (handicaptillæg) or supplementary grant for providers (forsørgertillæg) in April. If you have questions about the payment of SU or completion loan, you have to contact the SU counselor at your place of education.

When will I receive the one time grant?

As mentioned above, ATP administers the payment of the one time grant. If you received SU or completion loan in April 2020, ATP will automatically pay out the grant to you during October 2020. You don’t have to do anything.

The one time grant is payed out to your NemKonto.

Do I have to pay taxes from the one time grant?

You do not. The grant is tax free, so you do not have to register the grant in the preliminary assessment of income. The grant does not count as part of your yearly income in 2020, and thus it will have no influence on your SU.
